The study titled “Cannabis as a Substitute for Opioid-Based Pain Medication: Patient Self-Report” explores the potential of cannabis as an alternative to opioids for pain management. Surveying 2,897 medical cannabis patients, the research found that 97% agreed they could reduce their opioid intake when using cannabis, and 81% believed cannabis alone was more effective than combining it with opioids. Participants reported comparable pain relief from cannabis without the adverse side effects associated with opioids, such as dependency and overdose risk. The study suggests that cannabis could play a significant role in harm reduction strategies and recommends further clinical research to assess its efficacy as a substitute for opioid-based treatments.
