Our Story
The genesis of Wellford was many years ago, in Switzerland. Founder Scott was persuaded of the curative properties of cannabis, seeing first-hand the effect it had on Bozy, his much-loved family dog.
A medical disaster and consequent heartbreak averted, Scott was persuaded to look more closely at cannabis – what it could do, who were the major players and finally, how he could help bring this ancient traditional medicine into the mainstream. Directly, this led to the launch of Cannaray, which fast became one of the major players in the nascent UK CBD space.
Indirectly, this led to Scott and his executive team continuing to explore routes to market for medicinal cannabis products in the UK and Germany, including the acquisition of the distributor Therismos in the UK and the subsequent creation of the subsidiary Therismos GmbH. This exploration further resulted in the inauguration of a UK dispensary Newgrove Pharmacy and a UK medicinal cannabis clinic Wellford Medical Clinics.
In 2024, Therismos merged with Aqualitas, a Canadian, Clean Green® organically certified, aquaponic cultivator and EU GMP processor of medicinal cannabis. Wellford is the combination of these two companies and the formation of a vertically integrated cannabis company from seed in Canada to patient in the UK and Europe.
